One 60-day cruise around the Australian Coast was terminated following the death of an older female passenger who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a distant tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but separated from the group for a rest. The ship sailed away leaving her and came back after some time after the ship staff discovered the lady was unaccounted for.

An extensive search operation found her person the next day.

Authorities are investigating the tragedy, in coordination with law enforcement and the state coroner.

Head of the voyage organizer stated that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the continuation of the voyage had been terminated due to the "sad loss and prior technical problems".

In a statement, he further stated that travelers would be provided a full refund, and said the company was working "to arrange the return journeys of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also released an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a order to the Captain" preventing any new passengers from boarding the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the liner in the Australian city upon its coming back.

Chronology of Events

The ship initially left the Australian port on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the expedition at the point of the senior passenger's passing. Lizard Island was the opening port on the itinerary.

Travelers on the vessel - who generally pay large sums of currency to join the expedition - were transported there for a day trip with the possibility of hiking or snorkeling.

The child of the victim said that her relatives was "surprised and saddened that the liner left the location after an organised excursion without my mother".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her mother as an "active 80-year-old" who was a affiliate of a hiking group.
