Christantus Uche Sparks Comfortable Crystal Palace Triumph at Shelbourne.
Even though embarking on their maiden continental adventure, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without star players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a commanding win that all but guarantees them a place in the Conference League playoffs.
A further victory in their upcoming fixture against Finnish KuPS should be sufficient to seal straight entry to the last 16, especially following a previous setback against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Seize the Opportunity
This match provided a platform for some of Palace's lesser-used talent to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second beginning after arriving on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a well-taken goal. Forward Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, finding the net for the second consecutive match.
The Shelbourne side that had concluded their league season were no match against a largely rotated Palace lineup. The visitors were already depleted by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg problems.
Dominance Asserted from the Outset
In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward tap-in.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close soon after, driving a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after bursting into the area, but the referee waved away the protests.
Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to find his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's effort had hit the post.
The home side were hanging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for a couple of robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the crossbar with a header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
After the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest key individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring with his first touch, but saw his shot blocked.
The youngster was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then missed a sitter of a chance, indicating there is still scope for improvement in his game.
A solitary worry for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, capping an otherwise positive evening for the visiting side.
